What motivated you to join Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates? Tshikovha Green and Climate Change offers platforms and systems that allowed me to make use of my academic knowledge into practical experience, it is also an environment that enhance my personal growth. As a nature lover, I’m passionate about expanding my knowledge and making a meaningful impact on the planet’s wellbeing along with a very supportive team. It feels like the perfect home.
How did your academic background prepare you for your current role at the organization? My academic background was mainly focused on ecosystem-based adaptations, EIA, Mitigation, resource management and environmental compliance processes. It made me to be able to understand Tshikovha GACCA concepts and processes more because some are an extension of my academic background which help me to relate to the role I have as an EAP.
Can you describe a recent project you have worked on here that you found particularly interesting or challenging? Lamatsamo BAR compilation, as my first project I was not confident enough and I have not gotten my feet on the ground. There are many things that I did not understand and has not been exposed to.
What unique skills or perspectives do you bring to the team at Tshikovha? I am a good problem solver, once I get my feet on the ground I can work very efficiently, faster and come up with good solutions for the team.
How do you see your role impacting the organization’s mission of advocating for climate change? I will contribute to the organization’s mission of addressing climate change by assisting in evaluating environmental impacts. Through my work I aim to provide valuable insights reports and processes and promote sustainable practices as EAP intern.
What key learning experience have you had since joining Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates? I have learned that paying attention to detail is very important and working as a team make the work to be more efficient.
How do you balance the theoretical knowledge from your studies with the practical demands of your job? I take knowledge from my studies as a foundation, on top of that any practical thing I learn here at Tshikovha GACCA, I marry it with the theoretical knowledge so that it can based and meaningful. This enables me to understand things I have never seen before faster.
Have you encountered any unexpected challenges in your role? How did you address them? Yes, I found out that I am not good when it comes to communicating, and I get overwhelmed easy. I am dealing with those two challenges by forcing myself to speak with people and make sure I get used to social pressure.
What are your long-term career goals, and how does your position here align with those ambitions? My long-term goal is to be a well establish Scientist who integrate micro-regions particularly rural areas, about complex environmental concepts. My position will arm me with knowledge of the industry and skills so one day I can be an independent Environmental Scientist that help the marginalized areas to act and be aware of Environmental dynamics.
How do you stay updated with the latest developments in environmental policy and climate change advocacy? I am usually subscribed to environmental platforms that report on such matters.
